Unplug

Gouache & Acrylic, 2019

Like the jitters from caffeine,
or the queasiness from meds,
that feeling of “not right”,
Takes over in my head.

Too much information.
Too much isolation.
Too much distraction.
Too much of me fractioned.

Too many hours lost.
Too many pay the cost.
Too many goals forgotten.
Too many dreams gone rotten.

A collective laugh comes from our phones,
as they grow from servant to master.
After the plot to usurp our thrones,
Inevitability, comes disaster.

To bade off this attack,
remind the phone its place.
It only takes a simple step,
unplug it from your face.
