Leave the Light On

Gouache & Acrylic, 2019

Someone left a light on,
high up on a hill.
For those in deep water,
or looking for another pill.

For those who feel abandoned,
or beaten by the waves.
For those who took a wrong turn,
which left others broken and betrayed.

A beam through the darkness,
a welcoming light.
A sign of compassion,
a way out of the plight.

A shot of hope in the coldness.
A warm embrace without words.
No agenda but love.
No voice lecturing to be heard.

No photo shoot for Facebook.
No campaigning for a vote.
Just a simple light left on,
a symbol of care for a lost boat.
